Welcome Elizabeth Lane

Author of over 40 novels!

and

Affaire de Coeur's June Calendar Girl

We interviewed you last year so we would like to expand on some of the questions:

You mentioned to us last year that your favorite food was seafood. What restaurant is your favorite place to eat?

Here in Salt Lake City we have mostly chain restaurants, which I won’t bother to name. Their seafood is ok, but when I’m someplace like San Francisco or Seattle then I’m in seafood heaven. I go a little crazy.

If I came to your home and looked inside the refrigerator, what would I find?

Ok, I just went and looked. This is embarrassing. Greek yogurt. Cheese. Spinach. Leftover Mexican. Orange juice. Almond milk. Diet Coke. Eggs. Peanut butter. And Fancy Feast for my two kitties.

Do you have a special "honey" you would like to tell us about?

Yes. We met thirty years ago in a writers group (he’s a nationally published outdoor and gun writer). For most of that time we were just good friends. Then about five years ago he lost his wife. I’d been single a long time and it seemed natural to get together. No wedding plans (at our stage of life it just isn’t practical). But we love each other and have a great time together.

You also mentioned that you love to travel. Have you done any holiday traveling lately?

I still love to travel. But the man in my life (see above) has some mobility problems that make long-distance travel difficult for him. Since I don’t want to leave him behind, I’ve been sticking close to home and will be for the foreseeable future.

Attending any conventions/conferences this year?

Not this year but I’m tempted by RWA in San Antonio next summer.

Do you have a social/political cause you are passionate about?

Animals, both wild and tame. And wilderness preservation. I don’t have time to be an activist, but I support these causes with financial contributions.

Tell us your latest news? Current projects?

Right now I’m busier writing than I’ve ever been in my life. My second Desire book, THE SANTANA HEIR, will be out in July. My third Desire, THE NANNY’S SECRET will be released in January, and I just turned in a fourth Desire to my editors. The historical I’ve wanted to publish for years, THE BALLAD OF EMMA O’TOOLE will be out in September. I also have another historical to finish this fall. Working title, which I hope to keep, is THE COUNTESS AND THE COWBOY.

What ignites your creativity?

Just being alive and paying attention to what’s around me. I believe that the key to creativity is awareness.

Do you listen to music while you write?

Sometimes—mostly classical or movie soundtracks that don’t disturb my thinking. And the music has to fit the setting of my book or it doesn’t work. Right now what’s playing in the background is a CD with environmental sounds. That’s music, too, in its own way.

Name one actor you would love to get naughty with?

Truthfully, I’m such a one-man woman that I can’t imagine getting naughty with any of them, especially since they’re mostly young enough to be my kids. Although if I could go back a few decades I might be tempted by a younger Sean Connery.

What book are you reading now?

Waiting for when I have time to start it is Barbara Kingsolver’s THE LACUNA.

If you could say one thing to the next generation of authors, what would it be?

The world of writing and publishing has undergone huge changes in the past few years. But no matter what new technology or marketing methods come along this one thing remains true: There is no substitute for good writing.

What would you like to say to your readers?

I love and appreciate you all. You’re the reason I keep writing. If you have questions or suggestions, or even complaints, I would love to hear from you.
