Welcome to award-winning author Maureen Smith
Married? Children? Pets?
I have been happily married to my college sweetheart for 17 years. We have two children and two miniature schnauzers named Pippin and Polo.
What is your favorite place to eat?
One of my favorite restaurants is Pappadeaux. You can’t go wrong with the crawfish étouffée!
I’m very picky, but I love lasagna, Thai food, spinach, strawberry cheesecake, and ice cream.
Attending any conventions/conferences this year?
I will be attending the Romantic Times Book Lovers Convention in Kansas City, MO from May 1-5. I’m very excited to be doing a workshop with A.C. Arthur, Dana Marie Bell, Adrianne Byrd, Stephanie Draven, and PJ Schnyder.
Do you have a social/political cause you are passionate about?
In my latest novel, Any Way You Want It, I addressed the issue of domestic violence to help raise awareness of this epidemic. According to recent statistics, an average of three women in the U.S. lose their lives every day to domestic violence. That is an absolute travesty. There are many organizations that provide resources and assistance to domestic violence victims, including the Family Sunshine Center in Montgomery, AL. For more information about this organization, please visit their website at http://familysunshine.org.
Something silly you have done…
Oh, goodness. I do something silly every day! Anyone who knows me will tell you that I’m a huge goofball. I’m that forgetful person who shows up at the post office on holidays and gets lost wherever I’m going. LOL.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
Be true to your own voice, and don’t ever give up on your dreams.
Tell us your latest news? Current projects?
I was very excited to learn that my second women’s fiction novel, Deception, was nominated for an RT Book Reviews Reviewers’ Choice Award. Right now I’m working on Seducing the Wolf, the next installment in my popular Wolf Pack series. Seducing the Wolf features childhood sweethearts Manning and Taylor, who are in for a scorchingly romantic reunion. The book will be released in April.
Easiest and hardest thing about writing?
I think everything is hard, but for me, starting a book is always the most challenging part. I know how important it is to set the right tone and draw readers into the story right away, so I agonize over the beginning more than any other part of the book.
Do you listen to music while you write?
Depends. If I’m writing a raw, emotionally charged sex scene, background music can be a distraction. But if I’m writing a slow and sweet love scene, listening to classic romantic ballads by Brian McKnight, Whitney Houston, and Celine Dion can help me set the right mood.
Name one actor/actress you would love to get naughty with?
Just one? LOL. I definitely wouldn’t mind getting naughty with Idris Elba. Not only is he a great actor, but he’s sexy as hell. Hmm…I sure hope my husband doesn’t read this!
If you could say one thing to the next generation of authors, what would it be?
Set realistic goals for yourself, and don’t let anything stop you from achieving them.
What would you like to say to your readers?
Thank you so much for your love and support. I’m truly grateful for each and every one of you, and I hope to continue bringing you stories that you will enjoy!
