Jess Haines~~ 4 1/2 and 5 Star Reviews
Two master vamps and only one city make for a very nasty battleground and a lot of problems for P.I. Shiarra Waynest. In Jess Haines’s sequel to her "Others" series, Taken by the Others, Shiarra finds herself kidnapped by Max Carlyle, a Master Vampire set on revenge, and that is only part of his agenda. He plans to wrest control of a rival Master Vampire Alec Royce's territory, his coterie and his holdings. All will come at a bloody cost, thrusting Shiarra in the middle of a very nasty battleground and a world of angst.
Haines has dialed it up big time with her thrilling sequel. In Taken, Shiarra ends up blood bound to both Max and Alec...and there is one scene where we come very close to losing our heroine. With both Masters pulling at Shiarra, as well as the group of vampire hunters known as the White Hats, our heroine certainly has her hands full.
A good deal of back story between the two masters appeared in this installment, and while it is still not clear why everyone is so interested in Shiarra, I expect that will come out in the next installment. Haines is a great world builder, and her characters are interesting and well developed. Her writing is action packed, and for readers like me who are fully addicted to Urban Fantasy this is a perfect series. I can't wait for the next installment in July.
