So Close the Hand of Death

J.T. Ellison

Mass Market

When readers first encounter Taylor Jackson, she is worrying about her friend and mentor, Fitz, who lost his girlfriend and an eye to the serial killer, the Pretender, and who has made Taylor the target of his taunts. Every life Taylor has taken in the line of duty has eaten away a piece of her soul, but she knows she has to be the one to take the Pretender down before he hurts anyone else she loves.

In Nags Head, North Carolina, Taylor and her boyfriend Baldwin, an FBI agent, work to bring the Pretender down, but things go horribly wrong when three agents are revealed to be murderous impostors. How did the Pretender manage to plant his people in such a sensitive area? The many pieces of this tale slowly coalesce, including copycat killers and a blogger named Felon E, with twists that reveal that even the most intimate companions keep shocking secrets.

This absolute "Wow!" of a book is J.T. Ellison's sixth novel featuring Lt. Taylor Jackson, and while series novices won't miss a beat, they will be putting the other books in the series at the top of their to‑be‑read queue. The plot is tight, chock‑a‑block with twists, some of which readers won't see coming, and the characters are believable, particularly Taylor. This is one intense, hard to put down thriller!
