Reyna Montoya Svenson Jones had had visions all her life. After her parents were killed, she lived with the Apaches, Geronimo's tribe.  There the elders helped her hone her skills. Now she was a medicine woman, a shaman, who took great pride in helping those less fortunate. She was married to Evan Jones, one of two miner brothers from Wales. When an explosion in the mines caused lives to be lost, the brothers immigrated to America and achieved great financial success through determination and lots of hard work.

Reyna was content.  She had a husband who loved her, a life with meaning, and they were about to move from wild Tombstone to more cultured Tucson.  Then Evan got hurt, but thanks to Reyna's healing skills and the sudden appearance of an old family friend from Wales to help out around the ranch while Evan was recovering, things were still on track for the move. The only thing missing in her life was a child.

Evan Jones loved his passionate, fiery wife, her Apache spiritual beliefs and her love of everything and everyone. Even after going through the horrible experiences she had endured, she still saw the good in people. When they were upset or passionate, she spoke Spanish and he spoke Welsh. It was a match made in heaven.

Out of Forgotten Ashes is a wonderful affirmation of love between a married couple who are just struggling to live and make a life for themselves in the Old West. Ms. Johnson has seamlessly meshed two very different cultures, languages and beliefs into a love story, western adventure and mystery while infusing it with very real historical facts of Tombstone. The Welsh and Spanish literally sprinkled through the book are a little hard to understand--especially the Welsh--but it doesn’t distract in the least from the storyline; it enhances it. A truly beautiful love story that definitely makes this reviewer want to read Book 1 of the series.
