Deanna Raybourn~~4 1/2 and 5 Star Reviews
City of Jasmine is a scintillating, exotic adventure romance set in the 1920's.
Evie Starke became an aviator to support herself and her aged aunt after her husband Gabriel went down with the Lusitania five years prior. To her surprise, she receives a recent picture of him. Evie is drawn to Damascus, where the picture was taken, to solve the puzzle of why her deceased husband is still alive, and she is drawn into a hunt for a precious relic of the Crusades. This encounter with the very much alive Gabriel will reveal that, although their brief marriage was troubled, their love for each other never faded.
From page one, this novel is delicious reading. The period is so vivid it jumps off the pages. Each character is dynamic, like people you would want to know better (or avoid) in real life. Evie and Gabriel clearly love each other deeply, making the reader root for them to reconcile for good. Damascus and the surrounding desert and its people make an alluring setting and energy for this story, adding to its wonderful charm. City of Jasmine is a book that readers won’t want to put down until finished.
