Colton Black watches the girl in the diner who is clearly keyed up and ready to do something drastic. He sees her nearly rob the cashier, so this U.S. Marshal resolves to keep her close. Right around the time he realizes this girl is actually a grown woman, he realizes her gun is a toy gun. Regardless, he lets her carjack him, as he hopes he can help her out and keep her safe if he keeps her close. But she keeps the reasons for her actions close to the vest, only revealing her frantic desperation.
Maddy Howe’s family has a history of compulsive gambling, and her little brother is the latest to fall victim to the compulsion. Now he’s been kidnapped by the shady characters who lent him money. Maddy must come up with fifty thousand dollars to save her brother’s life. She demands that Colton drive her to her family’s cabin. When she discovers the money hidden there will not solve her problems, she drugs Colton and steals his truck. When he catches up with her, he’s going to demand the truth, and his help could preserve her family.
Karen Foley writes a riveting read with this tale of a cagey, deceptive heroine and a noble, persuasive hero. Readers will eat this up and finish the tale hungry for more.

She loves him, but he shuts her out and barely communicates when he’s on assignment with the military. Will they become single for Christmas? Joanne Rock writes a thought provoking tale with "Presents Under the Tree" (****), but the end is a bit abrupt.

Lacey Delaney cannot sleep without a light on because she is still haunted by her father's death in a mine cave‑in. She was only a child when it happened, but her imagination can fill in the details all too well. Because of this early trauma, she has worked to develop STAR. It is intended for NASA, but she also hopes this sophisticated system could be used to locate survivors in mining accidents. With this in mind, she heads to Black Stone Gap, Kentucky, to test this unit on the mines there.

Cole MacKinnon is not a mechanic, but he's helping out when Lacey needs a tow. He discovers her room at the local inn is an unsafe place to stay, so he offers her a room in his house. Their desire for each other leads them to share a bed as well. Little does she know they are working for the same side--Cole is working undercover at the mines because of suspicions that mine safety is not up to par.

This well‑crafted tale will hold readers' interests from start to finish. Don’t miss this fascinating read.

Jenna Larson is a true rarity—a female Black Hawk helicopter pilot in a field dominated by men. Her father was a legendary pilot in Vietnam. From him she gets both her gifts as a pilot and her attitudes about pilots, for as great as he was as a pilot, he was just as bad a husband. She sees male pilots as egotistical creatures with no interest in monogamy. She avoids military men in general because she feels held to a higher standard than her male counterparts. But the man in the local nightclub is more than she can resist.

Chance Rawlins is not who she believes he is. His twin brother Chase is special ops, and that’s who Jenna thinks her dance partner is... but Chance is an Apache helicopter pilot, a truth she does not discover until they unexpectedly encounter each other again in Afghanistan. Once the misunderstandings are cleared up, they still have issues to work through as they struggle against sandstorms, difficult missions and their own desires.

Karen Foley is unparalleled in her realistic portrayal of the realities of the warfront. That literally gritty realism, combined with pitch-perfect characters and sizzling passion, makes for an extraordinary reading experience.

Reiki practitioner Hannah Hartwell had to flee South Boston because a corrupt cop with mob connections is out to get her. After she wouldn't sleep with him, he had her arrested for selling sex out of her store. The charges were dropped, but he's not going to give up, because unbeknownst to Hannah, he stashed money in her store, and he won't rest until he has the money... and Hannah.
In Hannah's new home in North Carolina, Hannah's upstairs neighbor makes noise at night that keeps her awake. Ransom Bennett was injured on a top-secret mission in Afghanistan, resulting in headaches so bad he almost cannot function. Above and beyond her Reiki training, Hannah has a secret gift: She can feel-- and often heal-- people's pain with her touch. So she takes away his pain, and in return he will help her set up her new shop. But he's curious about her secrets, and without knowing those secrets he's not sure if he can trust her.
Karen Foley's latest is an excellent tale that pairs a military man and a New Age girl. Surprisingly, the pairing works. The suspense is very strong, and this reader's only complaint is that some of the love scenes, while stirringly written, fit jarringly with the rest of the plot.

Ivy James is an actress whose has been seen in small films-- until now. She has been selected as the female lead in director Finn MacDougal's latest blockbuster, which could finally put her in A-list company. She will be filming in Mexico, but her arrival does not run smoothly, as she loses one suitcase and the bus drops her off in the middle of nowhere. Then she sees a strange man going through her suitcase! Thankfully, he is there to take her to the filming site. He's hot and strangely familiar.

His name is Garrett Stokes, the real-life hero that the movie is about. He was severely injured in Colombia, and given treatment by a Dutch missionary (the inspiration for Ivy's character). Ivy may not remember where she met Garrett, but he's never forgotten her. He was in the bed next to her brother Devon at Walter Reed Hospital, and he witnessed her pain when Devon died. Garrett had promised Devon that he would look after Ivy, and he's followed her career. He is Finn's brother-in-law and recommended her for the movie. So as Ivy deals with her egotistical, superstar costar, and her own reputation for falling for her male costars, Garrett anticipates the possibility of holding Ivy, his longtime secret crush, in his arms at last.

Karen Foley's second novel is utterly wonderful, with a genuine, appealing heroine and a sexy, love-struck hero. If this novel is any indication, this is an author to watch!
