Spotlight On T. K. Lawyer
Passionate * Playful * Paranormal
Award winning, International Bestselling author, Tamara K. Lawyer, who writes under the pseudonym TK Lawyer was born in Colon, Panama. She moved to the United States with her family to pursue her post- secondary education aspirations and found her love of writing sometime in 2013. Her first book, Nightfall was published shortly afterward, in December 2014.
She writes steamy and heartwarming paranormal and contemporary romance with HOT alpha males and curvy women. Her books often toe the line, straying from traditional ideas and opening readers’ minds and hearts to unlimited possibilities. She loves exploring new ideas and new ways of thinking.
When she isn’t reading or writing, she is likely spending time with her husband/best friend or catering to their lovable American Foxhound misfit who steals all the attention in their house.
Do you have a new book or series?
I am working on a new shape shifter, truck drivers series called The Brigade. Macon, is the first book for the series and he is in the process of the second round of edits, as I write this. I am hoping to release Macon at the ending of September 2025 and I am so excited for his introduction into the world.
Brigade Trucking company is a different concept from all other shape shifter series out there and I am so proud of it. The shape shifters will not be your usual/run of the mill shifters, either as I like variety and I like writing new and interesting things. The second book in the series, Lycrus, will be my start into writing monster romance and I am beyond thrilled!
Here’s a little taste of what to expect in Book One of the Brigade Trucking Company, Macon:
Satisfaction is guaranteed
At The Brigade.
No matter what it takes~
Macon always left his customers supremely satisfied.
Till the day his eyes landed on Nina- the delectable female in the warehouse
His sights are set on her.
The smart-mouthed, curvy woman that invades Macon’s most delicious dreams.
He will have her.
No matter how long it takes~
As the first female hired by the all-male trucking company,
Nina can do anything a man can do and better.
Yet, staying out of the lusty-eyed Macon’s view proves to be challenging.
Macon is a temptation that will surely end up bad news for her, in the end.
She knows his kind. She has dated men like him, before.
Yet, there remains a part of her that wants to bed him and bring him to his knees.
Still, Nina is not into anything permanent with anyone, anymore.
Will Macon and Nina realize that fated mates are better together than separate?
Or will Macon’s desire for Nina remain unfulfilled?
If you were transported to the setting of the book you're currently reading or writing, where would you be?
I would be where I am, in Orlando, Florida. Lol. My Brigade trucking company series is based in Jacksonville, FL but two of the drivers live in the Orlando area.
How do you name your characters?
Most of the time the names just come to me. Yes, I know, it’s crazy like that. For the female characters in my first few books, I actually used the names my mom had considered naming me but didn’t. I liked the names and thought it would be neat to have them in books. I prefer unusual, different names to the more common ones so you may find some pretty unique names in my stories and/or unique spellings. Lately, I have been using search engines to find some unique names when I can’t think of anything.
What part of the book was the most fun to write?
For my current work-in-progress, the most fun part of the book I wrote was probably the most controversial part. Besides the beginning of the book where I introduced the characters, I did enjoy writing a part in the book that I am not sure if readers will like too much of; however, it just goes with the nature of The Brigade and what is expected so I had to leave it in there. I am known for playing with concepts and stretching the line so I hope my readers will love what I did and still like me (heehee).
Where and when would you travel to if you were given a time machine?
Actually, I like living in modern times. Yet, if I had the opportunity to visit a time in the past or future, I might want to check out how it was living in Victorian England. I have always had a fascination with all things Victorian including Cameos and even though I have no love for the way women were treated during that time or what they were made to wear (corsets), I would still love to visit and see the landscape and the elaborate carriages and balls they used to attend. Then I’d travel right on back to modern time where we have wonderful air conditioning.
What do you do when you can’t quite get into writing mode?
Actually, this has happened quite a lot lately as my day job has become increasingly stressful and there has been added pressure to perform. I have been slacking and taking time off, just because I need that extra time to rest and decompress. I like to go out and experience things. Going to some place new or visiting a new place with a friend always brings the joy back into my life so I try to do this, when I can. It also helps to engage an author with new and fresh ideas if they are lacking some/have writer’s block.
What traditions do you believe should be brought back?
Not putting up holiday displays until the month before the holiday. Haha. Yeah, I think we are rushing through the year too fast anymore and I would like to not see Christmas displays out in August… I just want to enjoy the month I am in because it won’t come around again.
What do you like to do when it’s time to kick back?
Spend time with my hubby. I truly married my best friend, so many years ago. We love spending time together and you will, likely, see him at any of my events as my “forced PA.” Lol. I joke about this but he actually likes helping me out. He believes in me and supports me which I know is a blessing because not all authors get this backing from their significant others.
Spending quality time together is what we like doing best and that can be doing anything. It could be something as simple as watching TV together to going to an elaborate party, together, all dressed up.
Is there something you’ve always wanted to learn to do?
I would love to be able to paint but, sadly, I have no talent for it. I am in awe of those who can just whip up something from their imagination and it actually look like what they intended it to be. I stare in fascination at gorgeous paintings and I have always been thrilled with art work but, sadly, that artistic talent escaped me.
Will you be attending any book signings or conventions?
Always. (wide smile). For the rest of the year, I am at Ocala ComicCon, Orlando Reads Books and at White Rose books for a book signing in December.
For 2026, I have several events lined up, such as: The signed edition book fair, Central Florida Comic con, Feel the Heat Book Bash, Coastal Magic, Wild Deadwood Reads, Romance Atlanta, Authors after Midnight, Flirty in Tampa and Tanoshi Con. I will, likely, be adding more to the list as the year progresses.
