Do you have a new book or series?

Yes, I am currently writing the Brigade Trucking Company series, a unique business where all of the drivers for the company are Shape Shifters.  The first two books, Macon and Lycrus, are out.  I am working on the third book, Dominic and hope to have it out in early 2027.

Where did the idea for this story come from?

I wanted to write a series with truck drivers.  My husband received a Class A license a long while ago and would regale me with stories of the “trucker life” which I found fascinating.  We do a lot of traveling, too, and stop at truck stops on our vacations so I wondered what it would be like if a company had Shape Shifters within it and it was an unknown secret.  The Brigade just blossomed from there.

 

Who’s your favorite character in your new book or series? Why?

Lycrus, the second book in the series, is my favorite so far.

Although I do like how Macon (the first book in the series) is super-spicy and pretty much the spiciest Shape-Shifter book I have written, I like the premise of Lycrus- the reformed playboy that falls for his stepsister.  The taboo concept of the story is controversial, and I am always looking for controversial angles or different concepts to play with in my stories.   

I had read a story where stepsiblings fell in love quite a while ago and I thought- why not do this with Lycrus?  It turned out to be a great story.

Are there specific people or events that helped shape the story?

Yes, my husband Jim helps me with the fine details of the equipment and day-to-day operations of a trucking company to make the truck drivers more realistic in what they do and what they can face while on the job.

Do you get inspiration from personal experience or just plain imagination?

Actually, it depends on the story I am writing.  I like to put a sense of realism into my paranormal worlds so that people can relate but I also like to add a bit of magic here and there like sprinkling it into a book at certain times to give the book a bit of whimsy or spice.

Several of my books have tidbits of facts in them that I have, personally, experienced or witnessed.  Since I am not a plotter, these are added in when I feel a certain part or scene of the book could gain from it.

Have you ever driven down a road or gone on vacation and thought, wow, this would make an awesome story?

Yes, actually.  One day I was listening to the radio and I was writing my second book, Centurion, in the Guardian League series, at the time.  One of the announcers happened to mention she attended a Passion Party recently and the other announcer did not know what that was (as I did not know, at the time).  Upon listening to her describe what it was and what she experienced, I laughed aloud in the car and thought “oh wow, this would be a great scene in Centurion’s book.” 

An Angel Paranormal romance book with a passion party in it?  Who has ever done that?  Me.  Heeheehee

Do you need silence or background noise when writing?

Utter silence to the point of needing headphones. It’s hard to listen to the little voices in my head when there is noise around me. I’ve even told my husband to go away when he asks me what I want for dinner.  Lol.  When I am in the zone, I am in the zone.  Please do not disturb.

 

How do you stay motivated?

It’s hard. Imposter Syndrome is real. Some days I don’t feel good enough.  When I see an influencer post their favorite authors for an event I am attending and I don’t see my name listed, it hurts (honestly).  I have to keep reminding myself people like me and I have fans out there that can’t wait for my next book to come out.  That’s what drives me.  The fans and the happiness that pours out of them when they see me or meet me at an event.  I love my fans!

Do you take time off once a book is sent to the editor, or do you move on to the next story?

At the beginning, I would move on to my next story but nowadays with the added stress of my day job, I have to take some time to chill out and relax, sometimes until the book is fully edited before I can move on to another one. 

Taking time to decompress is essential for everyone but I think even more so for authors with pending deadlines and their own self-imposed pressure to get a book done and out there. 

It’s time to sit back and relax. What’s your go-to?

 

I love relaxing in my special place in the home with a good cup of coffee and my Word Search book.  Or reading while relaxing in this same place. 

At night, I will relax on the second couch we have, in front of the T.V. and mostly likely watch a TV show or movie on Netflix with my hubby beside me and our American Foxhound, Ms. Molly laying across her bed.  

Will you be attending any book signings or conventions? 

 

Always.  I am always busy throughout the year meeting fans and doing book signings at Indie bookstores or attending conventions.  I love doing these and I fill up my calendar, posting all my events on my social media sites.
